News Flash, Green Egg!

Why is this a news flash? Because this was laid by the chicken that hadn't laid in forever, AKA My personal chicken.

I can't even remember the last time she gave me an egg; way before moulting season. I didn't think she was spent, because her sister is still laying. She does have a tendency to hide her eggs, but I've kept an eye on her and have never found a stash. Unless, she's been eating them (a bone chilling thought). I have missed those green eggs though, so I hope to see a lot more of them in the days to come.

Perhaps she was saving up so she can present you with a deluge of green eggs before Easter?

Green eggs are so fun! We have two gals here who lay green ones and I still love to see them in the nesting boxes. Your lovely gal is very pretty!

Hope the writing project is going well...can't wait to hear more about it! ;)

She must have just been tickled pink (um, green) to have helped clean up all the shelled corn. What a lovely little 'thank you' gift. Hope there's more in the future. :-D

Yes, well those ladies do have a surprise in them every now and then. My 3 year old Ameraucana was ON THE LIST and then she laid three eggs over three days. Same for her 2 year old housemate. They never laid another egg. When I was in the throes of processing them, I knew I had made the right decision. There were no yolks left to become eggs. You will know when it is time.

Green eggs? Now you just need the ham and a good Dr. Suess book!

Leigh,

What a nice surprise!

LOL.....all I can think about is green eggs and ham :-)

It's a pretty shade of green! My friend has a couple of green egg layers and sell eggs of all colours. However when she'd buy a dozen and it had a green egg in it, she'd automatically toss it because in her mind, it meant they were rotten. I don't know if she ever convinced her they were fresh eggs.

We had one that didn't lay for ages and then just started back with her green eggs. Must be the breed, our hen looks similar to your girl.

When I first read your title I thought you were reviewing that Green Egg smoker grill thingy :)

That is a lovely shade of green & it looks to be good sized as well.

Hooray! I just love a colorful egg basket. I always thought I wanted to choose one breed that I liked best and have my flock be all that breed, but I enjoy all the different colored eggs SO much, and with having a variety of breeds in the flock it is easier to discern the individuals. :-)

Oh what a lovely egg she laid for you!

Bless her little Ameraucana heart! Clearly, she cooked up a big 'un for you.
Good girl, Chica! (little girl in Mexican)
Enjoy your omelet!

YAY! Like Kris I think this was in appreciation for allowing her to help you with the corn shelling. ;o)

Hope there are more to come.

Ya'll I've missed those green eggs in my egg cartons. This was actually not as big as she usually lays either. And I have to admit, Dr. Seuss comes to mind every time I find a green egg in the nest. :)

My DIL had 4 chickens that we have been sitting, and a possum killed one at night. Of course it was the Ameraucana, who laid green eggs too, and was the best layer of the 4. Waah. One of the remaining hens hasn't laid an egg since last summer in spite of having lights at night. My personal poultry are Khaki Campbell ducks, they outlay all the chickens.:-P

Guess she just needed to know you still loved her lol!

She looks very pleased with herself ...what a great looking egg.

How many eggs do you collect each day Leigh?

Leigh said...

Hannah, oh no! We have possums too, but I lock the hen house and they haven't found a way in yet. Interesting about the ducks! I'll have to tell Dan. :)

Stephanie, she's probably my favorite chicken. :)

Pat, now that winter moult is over, I'm getting 5 or 6 eggs per day from 10 hens; occasionally more or less. It's a good number for us.

Oh I love these green eggs! My chickens stopped laying after the move.. Got very excited when I found a large green egg last week... But no eggs since then so I'm stuck with store eggs for right now :(
