July is blueberry month! And every year, I start blueberry season off with a fresh blueberry pie. What better way to celebrate Independence Day! Very American!
For dinner? Pizza!

Sometimes we can see fireworks over the tree tops from our front porch. We'll give that a go when it gets dark. That's about the extent of our going anywhere or doing anything for the holiday.
What about you? Planning anything special? Do you have favorite 4th of July foods or activities? No matter how you spend the day, I wish you a blessed one.

The blueberry pie looks scrumptious! I too, do not enjoy the home fireworks barrage... being a vet with some combat experience does rattle me every once in awhile, I do enjoy large commercial run fireworks displays, I am ready for those and know what to expect. Home type sounds too much like house to house fighting and sporadic. I am going over to my brother's for a barbecue and mouth to mouth resuscitation on a couple of beers. Then visit and watch the small community fire department puts on a small display every one in this small town donates for. A nice family time.

Usually I just worry about the area teenagers setting the landscape on fire with their illegal fireworks. I love blueberries but gosh I haven't had a homemade blueberry pie in decades - can't even remember when. Yours looks luscious!
The pizza looks delicious also! I had my breakfast oatmeal 3 hours go but now I'm hungry all over again :)

We usually spend the day as a family and although not a requirement, we do often end up cooking some of our food on a grill. I would be content to see or hear the fireworks from the comfort of my home by my immigrant wife, still likes to see them more up close and personal. So we will likely join the masses late this evening for a brief display along the river and then try to drive safely home while everyone rushes to be the first one back.
I never really celebrate. The crowds. Like you, I can usually see the fireworks somewhere. I don;t like the noise either and don't get me started on the possibility of fires, lol. What a grump, huh? At least we have had a lot of rain and today will be no different. #Florida
Ed, I can't say that I blame her! Fireworks displays are quite the experience and there's something about a crowd that feeds our enthusiasm. We used to live within walking distance of a city park, so we were able to travel on foot and avoid the traffic. But I reckon I've seen enough fireworks displays to last my lifetime. :)
Barbara, a lot of us feel that way! Crowds and traffic is the reason I don't want to go, but I can't blame people who do. To each their own. :)

Just checked a wild blueberry patch on our road and snacked on a few. Not quite there yet, but, there are lots, and with the rain we've had, should get a good picking!
Coincidentally, I am making pizza tonight as well, but because it is Friday and we have a guest.

The pie looks delicious. We now live in a locale where blueberries actually grow (instead of being trucked in), so looking forward to lots of them.

One year I bought my daughter a miniature container blueberry plant. I don't think she did a very good job of taking care of it, but I thought container blueberries would be nice for a balcony garden.
