Progress On the Comment Problem

I finally think I've figured something out! Apparently, the sign-in problem for embedded comments occurs only with Google's own browser Chrome. So, some Chrome or chrome based browsers (such as Chromium or Brave) are the problem. Other browsers work, however, and was actually able to sign in when I clicked "Sign in with Google."

I had success with Firefox and Vivaldi. Firefox is Mozilla, and while Vivaldi is chromium based, the developers apparently got something right.

What I find ironic about this is that several years ago there were numerous problems with Google products, and they would only function properly with Chrome. Of course, it seemed like a typical big business monopolizing move, but I like Chrome and have been happy to use it for all things Google. Looks like I'm going to have to change that now.

I'm guessing they may be phasing Chrome out at some point anyway, since the question I found in their help community didn't have an answer and the thread had been locked. I suspect that means no fix is forthcoming.

Anyway, I hope this helps those of you out there that are still having problems leaving comments on some of your favorite blogs.

I use Chrome most of the time, but lately have had a few issues. We even had our internet company come out and put in a new ground line, and we still have our internet going in and out. Crazy times.

Back when the internet first starting blowing up, I remember that first browser Netscape. I had all my links so organized and never had any issues, other than speed which wasn't a browser issue. I've had several different browsers over the years and have always hated having to set up and arrange all those links again, while weeding out or reconnecting to ones that no longer worked or had changed address locations. Chrome has been probably the longest one I have had and if they decide to phase it out, I certainly hope they come up with a tool to migrate all my saved links to the new one.

Kristina, I suggest experimenting with another browser. Firefox is common, free, and available for all platforms, so it's worth a shot.

Ed, I think all of them have a way to export and import bookmarks, so if those are the links you want to keep, you should be able to do that.

I have no idea about plans for chrome, but google is an idea company, and is willing to scrap projects that don't profit or that no one is interested in maintaining (remember Google Plus?) Maybe they are focusing on developing something new. Who knows?

Leigh, I use Pale Moon (a Firefox derivative) and where I do most of my browsing from, it is stable and have had not a ton of problems like some other browsers. I use Brave to moderate the two blogs I post and moderate which one is on wordpress and one is blogger they both don't seem to work or play well with Pale Moon.

I use Google Chrome exclusively and so far have not had any problems. I believe all my comments have been getting through to you just fine. I hope you can figure out the glitch, whatever it is.

Wish that they would leave it along when it works good!

Kevin, so far, Firefox has been working quite well for blogger, better than Chromium. Besides letting me comment, it's given me back a fully functioning navbar at the top of the page, which shows me as signed in. I had issues with Firefox in the past, but it seems to be working well for now!

Sue, I'm curious as to what operating system you use, because I'm wondering if it's related to that. I use an Ubuntu Linux derivative, and when it comes to software, it's least supported. That might be part of my problem.

Barbara, me too!

Some interesting points. I am still baffeled by the fact I can't post on my iPhone but here I am on my Chromebook posting away with my identity just fine. I think! However I posted yesterday on Mama Peas blog and it threw me into anonymous land. BChrome is up plain as day i upper left and I don't have anonymous as a choice on your blog it is my regular info as always. I used to use FoxFire and I have considered jumping ship again. I also got an interesting drop down a few days back.

I was buzzing around the net and got a drop down banner saying something to the effect of "help stop the potential of cyberattacks by having all of your phones, computers, chromebooks, tablets etc grouped together on Chrome so it is all linked from any information on one goes to all.To me this would make no sense in protecting against anything. When the idiot guys come knocking if we are all in the same place making a bunch of sitting ducks in my opinion.

It just gets odder and odder it does.

Goatldi, my observation is that "safety" is everyone's default sales pitch whether it makes sense or not.

I guess I'll stick with Firefox for the time being. The last time I gave up on it, it had gotten really slow, but it seems to be doing okay now. Or at least until the next time they "improve" it.

Leigh, I'm using an HP lpatop with a Windows 10 system. It's a number of years old.

Sue, I am guessing that most of the fixes and tweaks are geared towards Windows. That makes sense, since it's the most popular OS.

I am an Apple user - so my browser is Safari - and it is still a problem on some blog sites for me.

RT, I'm discovering some quirks with Firefox now, too.

My daughter is a senior software developer for a small international company, and told me that google tends to unleash new computer graduates on its projects of lesser importance. Considering how many problems blogger has had since the new dashboard interface, I'd say that blogger is one of those less important projects. Ideally, one would hope they'd work out all the bugs before making it available to the public. Unfortunately, the current big business model seems to use the public as guinea pigs.
