Last Post of November: A Little Fall Color

Before November comes to a close, I wanted to show you our fall color because it's almost too late! But things seem on a slower time table this year, and we still have leaves on the trees, which isn't typical for November. These photographs have been taken throughout the month.

Most of our trees yield yellowish brown in fall, so our little sparks of color here and there are a real treat. How's the color in your area?

In a word... gone! Lol ! Your colors certainly are beautiful! Are you headed for the cold snap that is forecasted for us? Supposed to dip to the 20’s at night for a couple of days, but we are ready! Have a great week!

Beautiful fall colours Leigh! :) It's just gray and brown out my window these days, luckily not WHITE yet! :)

Lovely! We didn't have the autumn displays this year sadly.

Lovely!

Yes we do have color. Lots of trees in the areas that are a nice yellow or a nice crisp red somewhere between barn red and burgundy.

I am hoping to add to my tree list this year a Japanese maple because I absolutely adore the one we had for years in Fresno when the kids were little it was so stunning. I get a good dose of that when I travel to the next largest town around the mountain and go past the Cal fire station. I have to laugh because every spring those things come forth and they must’ve planted a half a dozen of them and it looks like the whole Cal fire station is on fire kind of takes your breath away the first time you’ve noticed it and then realize what’s going on.

Had a lovely lunch dinner breakfast with my sister and her husband yesterday. It was delicious and I didn’t have to cook I loved it. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and things are going well.

Beautiful shots, Leigh. I especially like the third 'mosaic' of leaves on the ground..very nice. We have a million shades of white and grey, accented here and there by chocolate brown oak leaves that are still hanging on. Less than a month to the Solstice! I love winter but daylight is so short now.

Wyomingheart, ours are usually gone by now too! It's been a strange year. We're expecting rain early next week, which will usher in nights in the 20s. It will mean the end of the summer garden! But, it's that time of year.

Rain, thanks! Oh gosh, white! Will your snowfall be different where you are now?

Tpals, we didn't get much either, but then, we don't have many colorful trees. I prize the few we get!

Nancy, thanks!

Goatldi, I love Japanese maples! Such nice color spring, summer, and fall.

Our Thanksgiving plans changed when my son's family all got sick. So no turkey, but Dan cooked steaks on the grill. :)

Rosalea, the greys and browns of autumn and winter have their own subtle beauty. All appreciated! Hard to believe December is almost here!

Ours are almost gone, so a real treat to see yours!

Your pictures are a real treat and throwback to our autumn . . . which has slipped into the drab November look of brown and gray. That's why I'm always ready for the first real snowfall that will turn us (shovels and snowplows in hand) and the scenery into a winter wonderland! Sorry to hear of your son's family being under the weather for Thanksgiving. We had a quiet but very pleasant one with the three of us. Plus the turkey which now is lotsa good meat in the freezer and the bones, etc. are simmering in my biggest stock pot on the stove as we speak. Love that rich turkey broth! Happy December 1st . . . it's coming up fast.

We are still enjoying abundant color and I feel so grateful to be living where the seasons change so beautifully.

Enjoy the rest of the autumnal season!

Leigh, very jealous. Our scrub oak and scrub cedar give us either nothing or the lovely shade of brown.

Fortunately The Ranch has more such things, although I suspect when I go up this week they will already have fled as well.

with all the storms we've had, the fall colors are all but gone. Now we have just a few squiggly leaves left on our trees.

Leigh said...

Michelle, ours are heading that way too!

Mama Pea, thanks! Thanksgiving was being hosted by my son and his wife, so I'm going to miss those Thanksgiving leftovers too!

Daisy, enjoy it while it lasts, right?

TB, it's nice you have options! Our fall color is always in tidbits, so I have to appreciate it where I find it.

Jo, I suspect that after this next storm passes through, there won't be much left!

You do have pretty colors! This year has been so strange. We've had some pretty color but the most unusual thing has been the wind storms and the leaves falling. The trees are almost bare, even the oaks and that's unusual. Color not as pretty as it has been.

Ed said...

Long gone now but it was fairly decent earlier. It could have been better if it go cold and stayed there but when it just flirts with freezing for long periods of time, it kind of dulls the color.

Leigh said...

Henny, very strange indeed. For us, everything has been late. We had a late spring and now a late fall. Who knows what will happen next!

Ed, I never thought about that. It is strange how color intensity can change from year to year. We have one maple that is yellow in some autumns, but vivid orange in others. I haven't been able to make a correlation between that and weather, however.

Our fall came late and the trees turned lated and were over very fast - and not stunning colors either. I didn't really expect much - it is 2020 after all. :-)

We have lots of oak which don't give a lot of fall color but once in a while there will be some flashes of orange or bright yellow in the woods. Your trees are gorgeous! The leaves are pretty much gone now except for the Bradford pear which is still clinging to its leaves. I still have flowers on my tomato plants but tonight is going down to 22 so I think we are done. Here comes December! Where did November go?

Leigh said...

RT, so yours were late too? Can't help but wonder what winter will be like.

Sam, thanks! It's just little bits of color, because we have a lot of oaks too. I reckon we'll all be losing the last of our summer gardens after this next cold front pushes through.

Your trees are beautiful! We have some nice colors this year, too. Some years we're too dry in the late summer and everything just turns brown. We might get below freezing for the first time tonight.

STUNNING! I so miss seeing this. We go from green to falling off the bare. No colors, ha.

Leigh said...

Kelly, fall color is so unpredictable. Years ago, I remember the news media saying it would be a spectacular year for color because the summer had been so wet. Then the next year they'd say it would be a spectacular year for color because the summer had been so dry (!) Nobody can figure it out, lol.

1st Man, sadly it all came to an end when a heavy rain blew all the leaves off the trees. But we enjoyed it while it lasted!

P.S. I did read your book in November, so it's part of my wrap-up post this time! :)

Kelly, thank you so much! Your review made my day!
