"We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have."

Thank you for this fine selection of Rockwell's Thanksgiving paintings, and the thoughtful quotes. The painting of the refugee really goes to my heart.

Happy Thanksgiving Leigh!
I know you are busy in the kitchen. But for the Cockeyed Homestead (2 of us), there's no obscene busyness. On the menu today: a ham steak, mustard greens, (my grandmother's recipe)cream corn, corn sticks,(for dessert)pumpkin and cherry tartlets.I made the tartlets last night in the toaster oven.

I love the Norman Rockwell prints! The quotes are poignant.

The mother in the Normal Rockwell painting with her son looks a lot like my grandmother. She dressed in a similar fashion until her passing in the 1980s. We had our first on-the-road Thanksgiving dinner in our RV. It was pretty simple from deli turkey and instant processed foods but the essence of a holiday meal was there. You can read about it on my Margy Meanders blog. There's a link at the Powell River Books Blog which is languishing in my absence for three weeks. - Margy

Margy, good to hear from you! I've done a poor job of blog visiting lately, so I'm really looking forward to reading your post. :)
