We have four kitty beds. Two of them are the personal property of Sam and Katy.
Katy will only sleep in the kitty bed on the right.
Whereas Sam will sleep in either one.
That Sam should help himself to her kitty bed is extremely unacceptable to Katy. If Sam is there first she'll either wait until he moves or bugs him until he moves. She will not simply settle down in the vacant other bed.
Kitty beds are beneath Riley. Being more dignified, he prefers to place himself on a more equal level with the humans - the couch.
Meowy would rather to be outside, but is willing to come in for the night when it's cold out. In fact, we make her come in when it's cold because she's such a featherweight that we don't think she should be spending her calories on keeping warm.
She won't touch a kitty bed. In the past she would spend part of the evening trying to scout out a place Katy couldn't find. They still don't get along, and Katy takes great pleasure in stalking and startling Meowy. Meowy always obliges her with a shriek. The old "ignore her and she'll quit doing it" just doesn't seem to sink in.
What about the other two kitty beds?
They look perfectly good to me, but what do I know? Obviously not much. Even when I put all four by the fire the cats unanimously agree that these two are unworthy.
And that's the way things are.

Ah, those inscrutable cats!
Nothing more peaceful that sleeping kitties!! Adorable!!
Oh how funny cats are :D I have 6 cats and I have at least 8 beds (sometimes the dog needs somewhere to crash), but of course, the best bed of all is mine :D
Happy New Year to you and your family.x
Never a dull moment. :)
Of course! LOL
Peaceful when asleep, mischievous when awake - the perfect combination!
Aren't cats funny? Your cats have such a cozy place by the fire. Our Dumperoo is like your Meowy. Dumperoo is scared to death of Smokey and lets out a shriek that sends a chill up my spine every time they come face to face. Smokey seems to enjoy scaring Dumperoo, and me!
A simply sweet kitty parable. :o)
Cats! Such fickle secretive creatures. ;-) Give me a good honest dog any day who wears his heart and his deeds on his proverbial sleeve.
I think I hear Rascal laughing, Leigh. 😉
Lilly has 3 "beds"... the favorite one was originally bought for our first dog Misty...it a a little foam couch that is just her size. and she loves it. It is a favored sleeping spot. the next favorite one is what I call her tent. It is a pop up dog kennel...although you really shouldn't attempt to keep any animal contained in it. This has lost favor with Lilly as it is in the office and mom has decided to use the computer in the kitchen instead. The 3rd is a bed that I made for her out of a towel and some poly stuffing. She used to love this one, but now not so much...instead she'll sleep next to it or behind the door.
Our cats are so hard done by.....
Seriously, please, because 1 glance at that pair of slackers shows their weights skyrocket in the winter (no matter how many times I tell the menfolk that the kitty dish is only to be filled ONCE a day, because grazing Mum).
The cats have a 'fort' in the straw stack in the barn, inside the fort is a big kitty bed where the both of them curl up together like lovers, only poking their heads out when they hear the rattle of the Temptations bag...
Hard done by, clearly.
:-)
That is so funny! We have two garage cats (not declawed and used to be outside/garage)and tow inside cats (these ones were declawed since they don't go outside)all four would rather lay on the furniture than in designated "cat" spots. At night one cat cuddles up next to the heater, one on a mat on an old mattress, and two on the queen sized bed with my husband and myself. *smile* We reticently moved from country living to edge of town living. We didn't want to abandon the outside cats so brought them with us, they have a three car gauge so they have plenty of space and we keep two litter boxes for the two outside and two for the two inside. *smile* Our inside cats only eat cat food and maybe lick a little milk. The outside cats like a little turkey or table meat now and then or a can of soft cat food now and then in addition to good hard cat food. *smile* Enjoy the cuddly cats you share you home with. *smile* Sincerely, Mommy of two growing blessings & so much more!
Very funny! x
have you ever laundered the two orphan beds?
maybe the factory smell is unappealing.
if you have the money, spray them with feliway
it may make them desirable.
I love this post!! I was feeling like a failure because my "barn cats" that I got this summer are now coming inside and I have 3 cats in our little house with 3 big dogs! LOL! I had promised myself this wouldn't happen, but when one of the barn kittens got sick and had to come inside, what was I to do? LOL! So, here we are. And, I see I'm not alone. :)
That is funny. Guess they are just like the rest of us. Set in our ways! Have a great New Year. Nancy
Been watching your site for a couple of years/several. Thank you for being a place of sanity and respite in a world going madder every day. May God bless your home and family with health, peace and prosperousness.
At the last clinic I worked at there was a sign in the cat boarding area. "Dog's have masters. Cats have staff."
Never a dull moment with cats!
They're all sweet when they're asleep, LOL.
Aw, dogs are truly loyal where cats never are. We've been talking about maybe getting another dog, although our track record has been pretty discouraging.
LOL. Good to hear from you Kathy! How is our Little Rascal doing?
Funny, how they change their minds about things. But of course, being close to favorite humans is always a winner. :)
Oh my, your cats certainly do have it tough, LOL. Straw and hay truly makes for the coziest digs in cold weather.
Sleeping with the humans is always the best spot! (No matter what the humans think, LOL)
:)
No I haven't, but that's a good idea. Back when we had two cats, these were the only two kitty beds we had and they used them then. For some reason they are out of favor, but I'll give them a good wash or maybe at least spray and sprinkle with catnip. :)
That's 6 fur kids in the house, yikes! But I know what you mean about those "promises" made to self - especially when cats and dogs are involved. :)
Yes, even animals get set in their ways! :)
Welcome! And thank you for commenting! I notice you aren't blogging much anymore, or I'd return the visit and comment. Have to agree about needing places of sanity in today's crazy world. This online community certainly helps there.
That saying is funny because it's so true! LOL
I have been waiting for a Meowy update :D
Meowy is my Lionheart! The littlest cat with the biggest get-up-and-go. And never without an opinion. :)
This made me smile - although I have yet to see either Moxie or Della in a cat bed, Piper (who is significantly larger than a cat) has traditionally tried to take over any cat bed or cushion within a day or two of its appearance. Nothing like watching a long-legged 50-pound hound try to convince everyone that "it does too fit!"
We use a variety of things for dog beds, ranging from old blankets to actual dog beds. I've been trying to find a more affordable and durable dog bed option. Maybe outdoor furniture pads...? Anyways, cute kitties!
LOL, animals are so funny. They truly give a lot of joy, don't they?
You've got me thinking that there are probably some good ideas out there for making your own. Mine even love a pile of old towels or blankets. :)
Your kitties look so cozy by the wood stove. I'm doing a lot of snoozing and sitting by the fire myself these days. 4 feet of snow in the last 2 weeks, oh my! :) I'm a bit late, holiday craziness and all, but I with you only the best for 2017 Leigh. Thanks for your blog, it's so wonderful, informative and very motivating! :)
