Progress On The House: Exterior

Continued from New Bedroom Windows.

This is how the house looked in my last bedroom remodel post.

Once Dan got the new bedroom windows installed, he was anxious to cover and trim out the exterior to protect everything from rain. Happily, he had several rain-free days at home to do the job.

Under the vinyl siding is the original wood board siding.
It is in fair shape (here at least) and makes a good base to nail to.

For details on the octagonal stained glass bathroom window, click here.

Close-up of the exterior window trim.

The paint looks splotchy, but it really isn't. Something on the camera lens!

Dan is going to continue to the corner on the left and probably one more panel to the right. The horizontal white trim between the bathroom and bedroom windows covers the seam because one 8-foot panel can't cover the height of the wall. That trim will continue on both sides.

We chose the color scheme quite awhile ago - Choosing A House Color Scheme. We actually started with the new siding and paint when we put in a new kitchen window - Um, Replacing The Kitchen Window Means We Have To Paint The House. Right?

We're really happy with how it's turning out. It would be great to be able to finish out this entire side of the house, but that would mean replacing the front bedroom windows, which will have to wait. I can only have one room torn up and in total chaos at a time! Maybe this winter we can get to that.

I love the color you chose! Blue is my favorite color.

Great progress, and smart to do one area at a time :)

Glad to see how much progress you're getting on your home.

our hoa wouldn't allow us to work on things as we can get to them...so not only do we pay the hoa, we also pay to have someone else do the entire job. :p

I loved the colour, now it looks integrated. I felt 'it's done now':)

Heather thanks! Funny that I usually say green is my favorite color but I always choose blue. :)

Willow, I read somewhere that the problem with not doing it all at once is that uneven fading can happen. This is supposed to be UV protected paint, so we'll see!

Renee, once upon a time I lived in a place with a HOA. Everything I submitted for approval was denied. I said, never again!

Gasilane, thank you! It'a amazing what different textures and colors can do. :)

You should have lived up here. We haven't had a rainy day in over a month. The roofing and siding people are making hay for sure!

Sandra, I just have to keep that "step by step" in mind. Sometimes progress seems slow.

Maria, thank you!

Cassandra, thanks!

Su Ba, I'm guessing we all have a lot of things that need that plugging away. :)

Ed, that's amazing! Too bad the weather can't spread itself out more evenly. :)

Slow and steady wins the race, right? I think its wonderful that the two of you are taking your time, making informed decisions and finding well-priced materials. It makes sense to be handling things as you have the time, weather, and money to do so. So many people I know are living on credit and I worry for them. I think all of your work will be a huge source of pride and comfort for you in the years to come.

The house looks great, more rooms improved on, canning and the animals and on and on. You guys have SO much energy :). I can't believe Ziggys trips are 3 months old... Where does the time go? Phew.

We've been super busy around here too but I look forward to checking back in here soon.

Happy Friday!
