Jar Jar Jasmine? And An Award!

Firstly, a question. Is there really any resemblance here or is my imagination working overtime?

And the award, for which I must thank The Apple Pie Gal! I looked at the title of the award, "Stylish Blogger Award," and had to grin to myself. If hastily pulled back flyaway hair, no make-up, 2 old sweaters and a sweatshirt, a mid-calf length jean skirt over a pair of sweatpants, heavy wool socks (handspun and handknit of course), and dirty barn boots are in style, then I'm your gal! LOL Hopefully though, it's my blog that has the style.

Now for the fun part. I'm supposed to tell you all ten things about myself that have never been told before. At least not on the internet. :-0

1. As a child I had flat feet. When I was in the first grade I had corrective surgery for that. I was in casts and a wheelchair for six weeks, and wasn't allowed to walk until I got the casts off. The first time I tried to stand up, I couldn't even keep my balance. I had to learn to how to walk all over again.

2. I received my first kiss in the second grade. I had a boyfriend named Jeff, and we went behind my garage to kiss. Honestly though, I couldn't see what the big deal about kissing was supposed to be.

3.  My grandmother used to have a dog named Gwendolyn Penelope. My dad later adopted a dog with the name, believe it or not, Penelope Gwendolyn.

4. I was one of the first hippies in my high school.

5. Although I've lived in the South all my life, I was born and raised in the Midwest.

6. States I've lived in: Illinois, Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, and North Carolina.

7. The farthest west I've ever been was the Four Corners area of Utah and Colorado.

8. I used to be a registered nurse.

9.  In April, I'm going to become a first time grandmother.

10.  Besides homesteading and the fiber arts, one of my other great interests is genealogy.

I'd like to pass this award on to Beautiful Dee's. She's definitely what I would call a stylish blogger.

They look like sisters! Don't Nubians look regal? I just love them!

Doyu Shonin said...

What? Come out west to Oregon, we'll show ya around...

Tami said...

Congratulations GRANDMA! (grin)

Jar-Jar Crybaby! (That is Crybaby isn't it?) Once something like that gets in your head you'll never look at her the same again.

Tami said...

Ooops too early I guess. It's Jasmine!

Leigh said...

Lynda its funny you should say that. My husband thinks Nubians look silly!

Risa, it's on my list!

Tami, thanks! I should do a lineup of my goats. They do all look similar. Funny though, when you live with them you learn even their voices, and know who's hollering sight unseen. :)

Sharon said...

Nubians are definitely the cutest of goats.

Congratulations on your Stylish Blogger Award. You have a great site. It's funny, I used to be an RN too, and my first grandchild should arrive at the end of March!

Mr. H. said...

Congratulations on # 9...how exciting.:) Because I don't have nearly enough information on my own family history, and am very curious, genealogy is something I might just delve into one of these days too. You do have a very stylish blog.

Your goat and that other creature certainly do have quite a likness.:)

Leigh said...

Sharon, she's just giving me her cutsie look in hopes of getting a treat, LOL.

Mr. H, genealogy is both fun and addictive! Sadly, I just don't have the time to pursue it. I'm fortunate though, in that my great-grandparents (where all my recipes come from), came from a part of the country with a long and well documented genealogy, Cape Cod. The other branches have been more challenging to trace, but thanks to the internet, research is really pretty easy (but still time consuming!)

Jane @ Hard Work Homestead said...

Congratulations. That is too funny about the dog names. What are the chances.

A. Wright said...

I can see the resemblance, in fact it's a little unsettling. I trust she's much more mellow.

Renee Nefe said...

Congratulations! That's very exciting.

I do think that they must have used a lovely goat to come up with the concept for Jar Jar. :D

Woolly Bits said...

never mind the style of clothes - as long as it's the style you want it to be!:)) and the goat... hm, maybe she was an artists' model in a former life?:))
was there ever a famous dog in a book with a name like this? maybe the others were named after her? pretty weird, that name thing...
congrats to your blog - I don't care much about stylish looks, but I do like your style of writing and the contents (and the photos of course:))

Style is in the eye of the wearer? lol One can spend alot of time on the internet researching genealogy. Love it and have found family connections all over the world.

Jane said...

They do look alike, almost like twins.Congratulations on the award, you deserve it, you have a great blog.Blessings jane

Yes, they do resemble each other! That's too funny! Congrats on the award! ~Lynn

Wow, they DO look alike! Congrats Grandma! I'm glad to get to know you more. Hippie, been there done that ;-)

Jane, it never ceased to amaze me as a kid. :)

A. yes, she's definitely more mellow (thank goodness). Jar Jar Binks was pretty annoying as a character.

Renee, Dan think so too! Jasmine isn't quite a bug-eyed, but they do share a look.

Bettina, yes, I'm sure they style has to do with blogging, LOL. Good question about the dog name. I'll have to look in to that.

Evelyn, very true! Both on style and genealogy. I just finished a family project for my dad, aunt, and brother. I wish I had more time to do more research, but thanks to the internet, it's just a keyboard away.

Jane, Lynn, and Toodie, it's hilarious isn't it? Thank you for the congratulations too. Much appreciated!

Always fun to learn things about our fellow blogging friends! Thanks for sharing! And 'style' is in the eye of the beholder my dear! Wool socks and all! ;)

APG, I agree, getting to know one another a bit just makes the blogging community seem a bit more companionable. I admit I had a bit of fun with the "style" part. *grin

LOL I can see some similar features! Congrats on the award and congrats on the upcoming new arrival!

Michelle said...

I got that award, too, and thought the same thing - ha!

P.S.Thank you for the stylish blog award...it made my day.

Leigh said...

Luckybunny, thank you!

Michelle, I suppose it's sometimes fortunate that we don't see one another behind our computers. But where else can fun and friendship be found from the comfort of our own homes, LOL

Debbie, you're very welcome. I think it's well deserved!

What fun!!! First grand baby. I'll bet you're excited.

No one deserves an award on their blog more than you.

Robin said...

Hahaha that totally looks like Jar Jar. Congrats and on the new grandbaby by the way. :)

I keep coming here just to get a laugh at Jasmine's expense-so funny :D

Re your comment. Fedco just introduced a whole bunch of medicinals as plants (not seeds), but they're in the Fedco Trees catalog, not (I think) their seed catalog. Have fun ordering! Lots of stuff is already sold out.

Julie said...

Wow do they look alike or what!!!Congrats on the award and being a first time grandmother.

Well look at you girly!!! We both won this award. It really is hard to pick just one blog to nominate isn't it? Congrats! I am heading over to your recommendation right now. Have a great day!

Sharon said...

Congratulations Grandma! Be prepared to have your heart stolen. I hope your ganndbaby will be living close by.

Leigh Anne shared your blog with me a few weeks ago and this is the first I've been able to spend a few minutes enjoying your posts and pics. Lady, you are living my dream! We need to visit again when we return to SC in May. Looking forward to our first grandbaby and are glad we will be sharing the experience with you!
God bless you,

Leigh said...

Barb, thank you!

Robin, Dan thinks they must have used a Nubian goat as a model for Jar Jar Binks. Such a close resemblance. :)

Peaceful, and she doesn't have a clue!

Katrien, thank you for that. This is the first year I've heard of Fedco, so I'll have to take a closer look at their catalogs. Always glad for a recommendation.

Julie, thanks!

Melissa, that is so true. Congratulations to you too! I always love visiting your blog.

Sharon, fortunately yes! And I'm going to treasure every moment. :)

Beth, welcome! I didn't realize Leigh Anne and Nolan even remembered I had a blog. I didn't realize you had one either! Hopefully in May we'll have a baby goat or two. :)
