Weather Notes
- The colors of the sunrise have changed with the cooler temperatures
- In summer the sunrise was peach and gold behind the green leafy trees
- In early autumn the sky is silver and gray behind the leafy green
- By the middle of the 3rd week the seasonal shift was firmly entrenched, which meant it was time to change our routines.
- Switching most of the cooking from the summer kitchen to indoors.
- Switching garden work to the afternoon and doing indoor projects in the morning
- Migrating Canada geese and hawks. The geese are no problem but we've had at least one hawk keen on trying to catch our chickens.
- Flannel sheets on the bed!
- An extra blanket on the bed.
- Soup season has begun.
- And of course, the first wood fire of the season.

Getting close to the last of the summer produce as frost could be at any time now.
Greens galore: kale, Swiss chard, and collards
We've been picking up pecans here and there, but after this week's wind and rain, pecans have be easy picking by the bucketful.
Our sweet potato winter squash have been somewhat disappointing. They were late to develop and haven't gotten very big. We only got 8.
This one wasn't completely matured so it was selected for eating earlier than the cured ones. We all get some: goats, chickens, and us.
That's about it for me. First frost any day now! How about you?

The changing of the seasons is so life affirming, isn't it? I am so glad I am spending the rest of my years in a place with four distinct seasons.
I love how you describe the changes in the light of a sunrise.
We have yet to get our first frost, but it won't be long. We have some lows in the mid to upper 30's coming later in the week.
Makes the kale sweeter!
Enjoy the bounty in your life.
Definitely the shift is underway here. I planted my garlic and few days ago and that is always the last thing I do in the garden until spring. I am getting ready to change over the bed but haven't done that. My wood working is wrapped up at this point and I'm starting to turn my attention to more genealogy stuff which is my winter project. We have yet to have a free weekend home yet so haven't started a fire but I can't wait for our first one.
We are well into Autumn here ( I trow we are much farther North than you). My pepper plant put on some more blooms and seems to be holding on; I am curious if I will get a smaller second crop.
Looking forward to a fireplace report this Winter!
It's dropped to the low 30s several nights recently and finally below 30 on Tuesday night. We've got several days of rain likely ahead. Definitely autumn!
To be blessed a cat picks your bed to nap...
Daisy, it's always welcome although soon I'm sure I'll be complaining about the cold, lol. In the meantime goats and cats are all frisky and loving it. :)
Ed, winter is a great time for all the hobbies and projects that are put on hold this summer. I'll hit the genealogy as well plus I've already started weaving again. A welcome change of activities!
TB is the pepper still on your balcony? I'm thinking it may do well as a houseplant too. Even a few fresh winter peppers would be a treat.
Quinn, you're definitely ahead of us autumn wise! Temps are dropping since our weekend rain event. It's like somebody flipped a switch.
Kevin, he's apt to pick it whether we're in it or not! There's nothing like waking up to find a 2-ton cat sleeping on top of you. :)
Your kitty is so sweet! It is starting to cool down here too. I am hoping it stays warmer just a tiny bit longer, but it is looking like fall!
Jackie, he's my lap warmer. :)
