Firstly, I know a lot of people love their politics. Obviously, this post is not for you! But also, I know a lot of people have gotten really tired of it. In the US, at least, we've been embattled with political arguing and outrage for 8+ years, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon. So, for those of you who are like me and see politics as a useless king-of-the-hill game that people take way too seriously, this blog post is for you.
What I'm doing is looking for sites with interesting, positive, informational, solution-oriented non-political content. I'm not including news sites because those, of course, will discuss politics from whatever spin they agree with. I say that's okay because we pretty much have a heads-up on which way they lean and can choose our news sources accordingly. I'm looking for sites that focus on other, constructive conversation that wants to build up rather than tear down. I'd be happy if anyone cares to make suggestions.
Here's a few:
Permies.com "where we talk about permaculture and homesteading all the time." They do an excellent job of keeping politics and other controversial issues off their main forums. That said, they do have a place for people to vent and discuss "hot button" topics including politics, but it's only open to members who have demonstrated that they know how to respect others' opinions.
Goodness Exchange is a great site, focusing on positive, solution-oriented articles.
Ubuntu Forums used to be a great place for linux focused tech talk (and more) but they are in the process of migrating to another venue, which I don't have any idea about.
All of my blogs. I have several and they are all dedicated to particular topics that have nothing to do with politics. Here's the symbol of my pledge to continue to keep my blogs politics free . . .

At the risk of self promotion, I like to believe I keep things most politics free. "Interesting" may be left somewhat to the decision of the reader (https://thefortyfive.blogspot.com).
I second that! You have interesting content and even your observations of current events are quite neutral. For anyone wanting a live link, TB's blog is The Forty-Five.
Yes I hear what you're saying. I try to keep mine also neutral, https://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/?m=0 I really like the YouTube channel City Prepping as he is very apolitical and has really great ideas on prepping and self-sufficiency. He's always very positive.

Well said! You will rarely find anything political or controversial on my blog.
I like politics but don't often bring it up on my blog. But when I do, my goal is always to understand where others with different viewpoints are coming from and trying to find middle ground somewhere. I definitely avoid fear mongering and divisiveness which is very rampant on many blogs that post politics.
I did post this awhile ago and though it really wasn't you are asking, I have grown to love https://www.readtangle.com/ which focuses on political issues that are in the news but in a non-biases way and with much emphasis on reading through the views of both sides of the political spectrum and presenting it in a cohesive manner supported by only proven facts and not conjecture meant to ratchet up fear or divisiveness.
I also really love a forum dedicated to Bogleheads, followers of Jack Bogle and his views of investing. Politics as well as most things not financial are very much off topic there which makes it a delight to spend time on.
Nancy, thanks for the recommendation! Your blog always has interesting content. Link to Nancy's blog, Little Homestead in Boise.
Kelly, I always love your book reviews. :) Kelly's blog link - Kelly's Thoughts & Ramblings
Ed, thanks so much for the recommendations. I'm learning about some interesting new places! Ed's blog link - Riverbend Journal.
Agreed, Leigh! No politics in Mother Nature's world. As my header says.."I go to nature to be soothed and healed and have my senses put in order." John Burroughs.
Rosalea, that's wonderful quote. I feel the same way. Nature is my daily comfort. Rosalea's blog link - Chronicles from the Hill.
I find it wonderful not reading or discussing politics. I can't say the blog I help post and moderate would be entirely political free and mainly aimed for old, crusty duffers... I must say we have thrown away the envelope a long time ago...
Thank you Leigh!
Kevin, a lot of people love politics, so I daresay you're filling a need. But they know what they're getting when they visit your blog.
What I'm finding tiresome is the people who want to go off-topic on their blogs and websites, and pop off their criticisms, digs, and complaints. Used to be that nobody expected to agree on all points with any politician or political party. We took it all in stride and still got along. Nowadays, differences of opinion are the basis for anger and hate. It doesn't make sense to me. Grown-ups don't behave like this.
I keep politics off my blog too. I like to focus around self sufficiency, healthy eating, garden growing, homemade medicinal etc etc.
I also try to keep my blog project oriented and controversial subject free. Although lately I have ranted about bad fleece washing and now the stupid weather. 3 snow storms in 1 week plus lake effect snow. I'm so ready for spring to show up, but we have so much snow now, that we'll all be waiting with bated breath for days when it finally starts melting.
+1 on Riverbend Journal! Plus, you learn a great deal about genealogy.
Nina, somehow I doubt anyone is going argue with you about bad fleece and too much snow! Nina's blog - Odette's Obsessions.
Kristina, that's why your blog is one of my favorites! Kristina's blog - Pioneer Woman at Heart
I try to be politics free as well. But when I can’’t help myself, I will vent in the only space I feel free to vent it - that being my blog. But I do try to give people a ‘heads up” so that they can skip the post if they choose.
RT, that's a nice courtesy to your readers. I keep an eye on both sides of the news, to get both slants on whatever's going on, but the drama has become so predictable that I don't feel it requires anything of me. Mostly I just shake my head and move on.
