I have several ornaments, I can't just pick out one :-) They won't be on the tree this year. We purchase a little live Christmas tree in a pot to plant on the property come spring.
Most our ornaments are like that. Our most unusual (and yes, treasured) was made by our son in kindergarden. Materials were supplied and the assignment was to make an ornament (presumably an angel). Our son chose to make a cosmonaut instead (why not just an ordinary astronaut? I have no idea.) He insisted that the cosmonaut (who he named Sergei) top our tree. Over the years Sergei lost his head but still retained his spot atop the tree. I imagine we are the only family on earth whose tree is topped with a headless cosmonaut.
Good tidings and good cheer to you and yours Leigh! We don't do a tree indoors anymore, but I do hang some of the ornaments my Grandfather made many years ago. They are all favorites!
My gosh, your son did a great job at crafting at such a young age! It reminds me of a "painting" my daughter did in Montessori School when she was 3-4. As Christmas presents for their parents, the teacher gave each child a 8" x 10" canvas board and some kind of paint, not oils, I'm sure. Then she had the finished paintings framed(!). Forty years later, I still have that painting hung in my quilt room. You just can't beat those kind of treasures, can you?
Yep, we've got treasured ornaments ranging from those my kids made to a slew of near antiques from our own childhoods. Each ornament seems to have a memory attached to it. Happy Christmas! May 2014 be good to you and yours.
happy christmas to you - and yes, we have a few old baubles - and one golden filigree star, but we add something new every year. this year I was given two red birds with white dots - and I made several tomtes in wool and felt:) unfortunately the trees can't grow at the rate the ornaments do - so we have to skip a few to make room for the new ones (but they're all kept in the box anyway:).
Leigh, And a very Merry Christmas to you and Dan! I did get the gift card for Amazon from my Son and I will be getting your book ordered in the next few days! Can not wait to get my hands on it! Tom
Merry Christmas Leigh! I am so sorry I missed all the excitement around the book. Just wasn't a good month for us, but I'll catch up and post about it soon. And buy myself a copy too!! :-)
Congrats and here's to a WONDERFUL New Year for you and us all!
It is so much fun to find those treasured ornaments year after year here at our house, too. I got up very early this morning, pulled up the wooden rocking chair to the warm fireplace and read several pages of your book. It is the perfect book for a day like today! I will enjoy each and every word until every page is read......then start over! Thanks for writing it!! Merry Christmas! Julene

Merry Christmas! I think my favorite one is the "our first Christmas 1987" ornament. We've come a long way...
