I honestly didn't expect Ursa to wait all the way until her due date (today), but she did. She was so huge I was sure she was carrying triplets or quads. Finally, at about 2 a.m. this morning, she gave two birth to two huge bucklings. The photo above was taken just about an hour ago. Everybody is resting and the kids will sleep a lot for the next day or two. Wishing they were does, but just thankful everyone is okay.

Lovely newborns. Why are does preferred? Is it about milk?
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz! Does sell better because yes, milk. Most people who contact me to inquire about goats, almost always want does. Occasionally someone wants a buck. And I have some excellent looking bucks this year, so I hope someone is interested in at least one
DeleteHuzzah! What a great picture to start a Saturday!
ReplyDeleteTB, and a huge relief to have kidding done for the year!
DeleteBig babies!! They are always so cute! 🥰
ReplyDeleteKelly, they are indeed big babies. I was surprised! They're about the same size as newborns as the kids born two weeks ago.
DeleteI guess she just wanted to make sure the babies were "well baked". We had some sows back in our farrowing days that would give birth to the biggest piglets. Without fail when we would look back at our records, we could see that the father was one particular boar who was rather well built himself. Another boar's offspring almost always had long legs which made him an identifiable father as well. Funny how genetics can be so prevalent at times.
ReplyDeleteEd, that's so true. I'm pleased that with my goats, I've been able to improve my stock according to the breed standard. There are still a few things I could do, but I'm beyond traveling to find new candidates for further improvement.
DeleteGlad to see two healthy kids :)
ReplyDeleteQuinn, me too!
