TB, thank you! They are due something like a day apart, which has me constantly wondering which will go first. Ursa looks bigger, but yesterday River was off by herself staring into space (often a sign that first stages of labor are in progress.) We're on the early side of possible delivery windows, so it's time to start being watchful.
Goatldi, the bigger the bellies, the slower they walk. Hopefully, our mild weather will last until after the kids are on the ground and bouncing around.
You know, every year you post pictures of your expandable goats and every year I think, "That can't be normal!" And every year you get the most darling little kidlings 😍 Those poor does and their bellies never cease to amaze me.
Nina, both bellies and udders! Both are experienced moms and will be good moms.
Lady Locust, I reckon it depends on your definition of normal! LOL From the way they move, I suspect they'll be glad when it's over and the kids are on the ground ("kidlings" is great!)
Nice! My last one kidded monday. Very late for me. And the first time in a Long time I've had issues. Moms milk didn't come in good enough (first freshener) so I had to bottle feed one, of twins... the first 2 days. It was a great reminder to keep colostrum in the freezer..! What I had on hand was collected in 2021 and I have more but haven't collected any since then so it's on "do next time without fail" list. The girls look lovely and ready!
Annie, birthing issues with goats are rare but still worrisome. Yes, we should always keep colostrum in the freezer! A wiser and more experienced goat person told me that even old frozen colostrum is much, much better than the artificial commercial "colostrum." Sounds like your doe's milk did come in, which is a great relief. Bottle babies are precious, but it's better if their moms can do the work!

ReplyDeleteRosalea, it's funny how they always walk in a line like that. If one starts off and a second one follows, the others all fall in line and off they go.

Awe....so cute with pretty full bellies. I saw some little ones just this past week and thought how adorable they look.
