Things I'm Thankful For

Originally, I'd hoped to have a picture post, but I've run out of time, busy with family things. But I do want to take advantage of this traditional time of year to count my blessings. I know how easy it is to complain. Some default setting of human thought and emotion? I find that focusing on gratitude and contentment is so much happier!

I'm thankful for:
  • My husband, who is truly a partner on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
  • My family. I'm proud of my adult children, their spouses, and their children.
  • Our little piece of land.
  • Our goats and the milk they provide. I'm thankful for their antics too!
  • Our poultry. Everybody seems to be getting along better now that we've thinned the flock.
  • Our four mousers (it takes that many around here).
  • Our garden and all its struggles to produce for us despite our often uncooperative southern weather.
  • The greenhouse (progress update soon!)
  • That so much of our Thanksgiving feast is homegrown: turkey, cornmeal for the cornbread stuffing, green beans for the green bean casserole, winter squash for the "pumpkin" pie, and goat cream for its whipped cream topping.
  • My new sewing room.
  • My table loom (thanks to my dear friend Terry) and the ability to weave again.
  • A cozy fire in the woodstove.
  • A warm lap cat on a chilly evening.
  • My blogging community. I'm thankful for each of you who visit my blogs and take the time to comment. I'm thankful for the blogs you write, because you help keep my life interesting with your diversity of projects, personalities, interests, ideas, and opinions.
I truly have a lot to be thankful for.

  3. Yes indeed. Human nature perhaps that we go to the glass half empty. But like any other unwanted trait we can work diligently on removing it and then it disappears .
Leigh you have introduced me to more homestead projects than Joel Salatin has and the applications to carry them out. We still love you Joel no worries. You Leigh are my inspiration for hanging out here in blog land even though I have become an infrequent blogger this is still home for me.
Your blog was a spring board to so many others I have followed and enjoyed.

I am thankful that I am still able to homestead after my husband's death . It is a different model but the players plants, chickens, goats and now sheep the same. The fact that I am still able to thanks to Geoffrey for being a good planner.

So many things to be grateful for .But in good humor may I add the most amazing pumpkin cheesecake I ever set my mouth to. Annie (daughter)you are a baker to be sure!

    Weave on !

  4. Yes, so very grateful here, too, for all my blessings including friends-from-afar made through this crazy blogging community. Speaking of the glass half full or half empty, yesterday it hit me that I MUST stop talking about (complaining about) how fast time continues to fly by. (Can she do it, folks?) After all, would I want to live a life that allowed the hours, days, months, years to d-r-a-g by because I wasn't as blessed and fortunate as I am? Would I want to be physically (or mentally) incapacitated so I couldn't do everything I am able to do? Nosireebob! So, feel free to whop me upside the head if I fall off the wagon and you hear me voicing frustrattion because time seems to be passing too quickly!

  5. I'm glad to see that last item on your list, which also made my list this year. When I step away from my computer for a few days, as I have just this holiday, it doesn't take me long to start wondering about what other bloggers are writing about and I've been really enjoying this early morning catching up on so many wonderfully written posts.

  6. T'would probably be of help to all of us to make an actual list of what we have to be thankful for. Sometimes the woes take up all the room and we forget the blessings. Thanks for the reminder, dear girl. I've loved following along with you all these years.
