Bettina, I don't know if the neighbors notice. It can be seen from the road, but no one lives directly across from our driveway for a full time view. They'd have to particularly look down our driveway to see it. That being said, our house and outbuildings were very dilapidated when we bought the place, so any improvements are appreciated, I'm sure! Our neighbors all fall into suburbanite types, so they like neatly groomed yards and well-kept homes. We're slow on a lot of things, but we do try to keep the front lawn mowed and work toward a more aesthetic place in general. It's fun when some of that includes room for a creative touch or two. :)
it's lovely! I'm sure it must fill you and Dan with a huge since of pride in a job well done seeing this each morning. The amount of craftsmanship that has gone into your homestead is amazing.

Mike, almost! Dan's working on gutters now, then windows and trims. Also need a door off the back opening of the barn. We don't have to wait until all that's done before moving the goats in, though, so that will likely be pretty soon.

Chris, I don't know if I'd call it a tradition. I actually hadn't heard of them until Mrs. Shoes mentioned them in a comment awhile back. (She's Canadian, so I reckon it's a North American thing. Have any of my European readers seen them over there?) I loved the idea and when I searched "barn quilts" found hundreds of examples. There are barn quilt directories and "trails" as well as quite a few books on the topic. So maybe they weren't a tradition back-when, but they have certainly become very popular!
Thanks for the follow-up, Leigh. It's interesting how traditions start, isn't it? Seems it may have skipped the border, and started spreading. ;) I can see how a tour guide would be a popular thing. You may just find yourself on one soon, with strange cars and buses, parking out front to take a gander at your barn quilt.
