I know that's not the oddest egg that's ever been laid, but it was pretty strange to me. Anyone else had any strange eggs laid lately?

I've never had an egg like that before!
ReplyDeleteMe neither. Mostly our odd eggs have lumps of calcium deposits on them or odd spots. :)
DeleteI have, it's quite often laid by the newer hens or the older ones in my girls. A bit like beginners and finalists! Had a few double yolkers too!
ReplyDeleteLove those double yolk eggs! But you're right, they; mostly seem to come from our new layers. Most of our adult hens are getting older, so I'm sure we'll have more oddball eggs in days to come.

DeleteWhen I was the one gathering eggs as a kid, odd shaped eggs weren't that unusual. Even ones with a bump on them. Looked just the same as normal once cracked open.

DeleteOdd eggs all the time. Currently, my blue eggs are growing smaller by the day, looking almost like robin eggs at times.

Your bees swarmed??? That's amazing! Interesting about your chicken eggs too. Are they from older hens or pullets?

DeleteWhat I think is interesting is that 99% of the eggs come out looking so perfect and egg-like! You know, oval and smooth and with one end slightly point-ier than the other! I remember getting one egg a while back that had a nearly flat spot along one side. Sort of like it hit the nesting material and was too soft on that side so flattened out.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've had a few that were exactly the same on both ends, both slightly pointy. Funny how they can turn out "normal" most of the time but not always!

ReplyDeleteLOL, I've seen a couple of photographs of eggs that were really wacky. This one was just unusual. :)
DeleteIt is strange but it's kind of cool in a way. Do you save them when you get the odd ones (like blow out the egg and keep the shell?)

DeleteWe get odd eggs all the time. Elongated like a torpedo, flatter on one side than another, wrinkled on one or both ends, HUGE...

DeleteSomething tells me that if they had an unusual egg the place I get ours from wouldn't sell it. ;)
ReplyDeleteRenee, have you ever read Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle? She talks about industry standards and public expectations, and it's amazing how much food is wasted in this country because it doesn't meet those criteria!

That is a unique looking egg, was it from one of your chickens? Or maybe a duck?
Sandy, yeah, your mushroom post was very interesting. This one is a chicken egg. Has to be because we only have chickens!
DeleteYears ago my Aunt had some that were "skinned" no shell they were soft and felt like the skin on my old hands. When you laid them on the counter they flattened out like a water balloon. They never ate them, they got fed to the pigs.
