Daphne!


Twins, can you believe it? Dan went out around 2:30 a.m. but nothing was happening. When I went to check at 4:30 there was discharge and Daphne was restless. About half an hour later she started pushing. The result was two healthy little bucklings born this morning at 5:13 and 5:17. It was an easy delivery and Daphne couldn't be prouder.Nothing was required from me except helping dry them off.

Afterwards I went to check on Polly. She came running to greet me, ready for morning pets and scratches. No piglets yet, however, but I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: Noon. A few more photos.

Being born is exhausting work. 1st Born (left) is a velvety
black with one white spot in addition to the patch of
white on his withers. 2nd born dried to a lovely silver.

    Yea! They look like carbon copies of mom. Who's the daddy? You're an excellent goat drier!

      The daddy is Clark, photo here (4th photo down) although it's an old one and he's grown up a bit since then.

      I've had plenty of experience as a goat dryer :) although nobody does it like mom.

    Hurray! Those little guys look like bookends, sitting nose to nose and having such similar markings. They're adorable! Can't wait to see them wearing their sweaters.

      The temperatures are supposed to drop quite a bit tomorrow night, so we'll certainly need them. I just hope they aren't too big!

    Awww such cuties. We got another month here until the lambs start coming but several of the ewes are getting that WWI battleship look about them.

    Hah....I was right you go Daphne! All the people that forecast Polly! If you ever come across a cattle Blower at an auction they are awesome for drying livestock and anything else for that matter. Circuiteer or Sullivan.

      So far so good. They found the food source without problem and have been getting their fill of colostrum. Today they'll probably get more active. :)

    Glad to hear everything went well in the delivery. More baby goats to help relive childhood memories. We had a small dairy goat herd of 15-20 goats for 4H. I sure do miss the babies. Can't wait for all the photos.
