The other evening I was finishing up my shower when I heard Riley meowing loudly in the hallway. I knew what he wanted - to go outside. "Well," I thought, "he's just going to have to wait." Next I heard pushing on the bathroom door. Because our master bathroom is so small, we installed a bi-fold door when we remodeled it. Riley knew that if he pushed on the center of the door, he could get it open! He peeked in once to see what I was doing, then proceeded to push it open more and let himself in. The meowing didn't let up until he finally got what he wanted.

That brings a good chuckle! Good ole Riley. I can fully appreciate the fact that he didn't give up until he got what he wanted. Our cats often pull that on us. They are pretty good at convincing us to get up and satisfy their demands. But we love them anyway,
ReplyDeleteWell, that's our job! LOL
DeleteClever chap :-}
ReplyDeleteSorry I have been AWOL for so long, struggling to get caught up but fingers crossed I am there now. Hope you have had a good holidays.
Jayne, good to hear from you! Life can be terribly busy sometimes, can't it? I hope you are having lovely holidays as well. :)
DeleteWe used to have a cat that considered any closed door a challenge. He couldn't get them unlatched, but if they weren't latched securely, he would work until he got them all the way open. If they were latched, he stood outside them and complained until someone opened them. Needless to say, all interior doors were open all night! For some reason, he was fine with exterior doors staying closed.
ReplyDeleteOh my, we used to have a cat like that too. He demanded that all doors be open at all times! Humans needing privacy was a non-consideration. :)
Delete"Where there's a will, there's a way!" Maybe the saying should be, "Where there's a cat, there' a way."
ReplyDeleteLOL, if they are anything, they are persistent!
DeleteYou'll never shower alone again. ;)
ReplyDeleteExcept if it were up to Riley, I'd get out of the shower to do what he wants! ;)
Deletewell you could splash him with water. ;)
DeleteAh, feline curiosity, and cunning. Ridley has probably been waiting for the right opportunity to show you he had worked it all out :) Never underestimate a cat... They seem to always get what they want :D
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Leigh - from our house in South Africa to yours :)
And they are very good at communicating what they want! It's interesting that they can figure that out.
DeleteAnd Merry Christmas to you too Dani!
Now you know...."dogs have owners, cats have staff"
ReplyDeleteMy next book should be, My Career as a Cat Slave. :)
DeleteYep I had to put a hook lock on our bathroom door. It never had a lock and the bolt in the jam was not the greatest so the cats could push on the door a while and get it to open. Now they just stick their paws under the door and meow.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the paws under the door trick! So pathetic. Good idea about the hook lock. ;)
DeleteWe have a cat that can open a turn knob door knob. If we don't lock the front door out he goes with the young guy in tow. It's amazing watching him open the door. He looks at us after doing so like see what I can do, don't mess with me.
ReplyDeleteCleopawtra, now that is amazing! Very smart cat!
DeleteSilly kitty!
ReplyDeleteSigh it comes with the territory. :)
DeleteSmart Riley....training his human well....LOL! Like they all do! ;)
DeleteAnd apparently, we are badly in need of training!
DeleteYes, sometimes, not so much staff as Personal Assistant
ReplyDeleteAnd the cats do the appointing! LOL
DeleteOh,oh, You are in trouble now! Coco likes to come in with me sometimes too just to be near. Nancy
ReplyDeleteThey do like to keep us company, don't they? I just wish demands wouldn't be made at the most inconvenient times, LOL
DeleteLeigh,
ReplyDeleteSmart cat!!!
Sandy, it amazes me how they figure these things out. I once remember reading an argument between two "experts" as to whether or not animals could reason. The guy who said they couldn't obviously didn't live with animals (or very bright ones anyway ;)
DeleteWelcome to my world. Tilly is my shadow which means sitting outside the toilet door and when im in the shower she jumps on the bathroom door until it opens and then sits outside the shower recess. When i get out she licks my feet. (i should be grossed out but im not). Problem is that she leaves the door wide open and anyone walking past can see straight in. Ughh...... Im going to have to train her to close it after herself.
ReplyDeleteEither that or a lock on the door! We used to have a cat who preferred to get his water by licking the wet bathtub or our wet legs. Silly cat!
