Twins! Can you believe that's all that was in there? But, girls!

The black spotted doeling was first, arriving hind feet first at 1:35 AM. The second was born at 2:15, and then we waited to see what was next.

I couldn't feel any more heads, feet, or butts and at about 4 Daphne delivered the placenta.
They are quite a bit bigger than Helen's. Her quads weighed between 4 lb 10 oz and 4 lb 15 oz. Daphne's weigh 6 lb 10 oz and 6 lb 4 oz.

That ends kidding season for us with 3 doelings and 3 bucklings; all healthy and thriving. Can't complain about that.
Wow! Just two. No wonder she was holding out, maybe she was hoping a few more would show up along the way. ;)

At last, gosh, you must be in need of a big sleep. They are pretty cute. My husband is rolling his eyes as i gasped "Daphne's had her babies". Who is Daphne! A goat in America. His look was priceless.

ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your kind comments. Twins were a surprise, but it's always a relief when it goes well, which it did even though it was in the middle of the night!
ReplyDeleteRhonda, the hind feet breech position is fairly common for goats, especially multiples. I admit that as soon as I realized it was breech (saw the bottoms of the feet rather than the tops as is typical with the "nosedive" birth position), I just wanted to get the kid out as fast as possible, so I pulled with the contractions for a quicker delivery. This is because a number of years ago I had a horrible experience with a frank breech kid, i.e. tail first, which is a difficult, if not impossible, delivery. That one ended up being still born and I didn't want to take a chance!

Fern, it has been a prolific year for bucks! That's the kidding news from so many quarters. I was hoping Daphne would at least even the score, which she did!
Jacqueline, that talkative ones always seem to be opinionated goats! Can be very annoying at feeding time, when their opinion is that the goat keeper is late!
