Daphne At Last

Daphne's twin girls born April 4, 2015

Twins! Can you believe that's all that was in there? But, girls!

Firstborn doeling

They arrived in the wee hours of the morning.

Second doeling. Has one teeny white dot in the center of her back

The black spotted doeling was first, arriving hind feet first at 1:35 AM. The second was born at 2:15, and then we waited to see what was next.

Notice the mouth open. This one is a talker!

I couldn't feel any more heads, feet, or butts and at about 4 Daphne delivered the placenta.

They are quite a bit bigger than Helen's. Her quads weighed between 4 lb 10 oz and 4 lb 15 oz. Daphne's weigh 6 lb 10 oz and 6 lb 4 oz.

The nice thing about having only one sibling
is that there is no fighting over food.

That ends kidding season for us with 3 doelings and 3 bucklings; all healthy and thriving. Can't complain about that.

  1. Wow! Just two. No wonder she was holding out, maybe she was hoping a few more would show up along the way. ;)

Well 3 & 3 sounds like a good deal. Can't wait to watch all the playground antics.

  2. Gratz on surviving the birthing season!!

We'll probably be getting lambs here until sometime into June since I left the girls in with the rams so long.

New Babies are so fun especially once they are out :)

  8. Congratulations on being there for the births! I assume the 'hind-feet-first' kid needed a little help, so it's a good thing you were checking frequently. So glad you got some doelings from Daphne. The little polka-dot girl is adorable!

  10. Sounds as if your lack of sleep paid off! The size of a doe during pregnancy can sure be deceiving, can't it? The important thing is that Daphne and kids are doing well. And two does! That's icing on the cake.

  21. Congratulations, Leigh, and two girls at that. I have one doe left to go and I do hope she has a girl. My two other first fresheners had boys, so this one needs to break that streak. Have fun with your babies.

  26. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Twins were a surprise, but it's always a relief when it goes well, which it did even though it was in the middle of the night!

Rhonda, the hind feet breech position is fairly common for goats, especially multiples. I admit that as soon as I realized it was breech (saw the bottoms of the feet rather than the tops as is typical with the "nosedive" birth position), I just wanted to get the kid out as fast as possible, so I pulled with the contractions for a quicker delivery. This is because a number of years ago I had a horrible experience with a frank breech kid, i.e. tail first, which is a difficult, if not impossible, delivery. That one ended up being still born and I didn't want to take a chance!

Renee, and you know who has already offered some really cute names!

Lynda, how funny. See what the internet does for us!

Fern, it has been a prolific year for bucks! That's the kidding news from so many quarters. I was hoping Daphne would at least even the score, which she did!

Jacqueline, that talkative ones always seem to be opinionated goats! Can be very annoying at feeding time, when their opinion is that the goat keeper is late!

  29. Wow! why I'm not there to hug those? I've lived seven summers in a village my dad had born there, with his uncle, and...
and YES bill, there are so few things cuter than a honey colored baby goat! It's awesome!!

  35. Leigh,

Sorry, I'm slow getting at the computer to respond to posts.
Your Daphne did a good job. Both babies look beautiful and healthy.
Good to see there's no fighting over whose going to be eating first.
I just love the pictures you posted of Daphne's little ones. Congratulations Leigh!!

  36. Barb and Bill, thanks!

Hamid, thank you and welcome. I'd make a return blog visit but it doesn't seem you have one.

    Goodwife, Julene, and Harry, thanks!

Susan, I'm keeping one of these and trading the other for another Kinder doeling from another breeder. :)

    Karen, congratulation on that!

Sandy, it's that time of year; a lot to do so less blogging and blog visiting. Thank you for taking the time to come visit anyway!

Debbie, the spots are really fun, but I love the face of the fawn one. So sweet. They both are really.
