Miracle: 16 Days Old on Her Due Date

Today was the original date I had circled on my goat calendar as Anna's due date. Today, Baby Miracle is 16 days old! How's she doing?

Very well! She's bonded with her mother but comes running every time she sees me. Then she follows me around and bumps my legs looking for milk. She thinks her name is Baby, because I'm always asking Anna, "Where's your baby?"

So there's a tale of woe with a happy ending. Gives meaning to the saying, "All's well that ends well."

She's a pretty little thing - gorgeous coloring! Glad to hear she's doing so well.

Looks fat and happy!

Gorges, they are incredibly cute at this age. And then they grow up to be goats! LOL

Rhonda, she is pretty, isn't she? I got two salt-and-pepper kids this year, Miracle and her half-sister Belle.

Mike, and she is!

If he had gone in an ambulance, he would have seen the specialist immediately since the ambulance indicates the gravity of the injury/situation.

I hope it is much better now.

Cute goat.

Cuteness overload. A little angel, and wonderful to see her, enjoying the spring. If you don't mind me asking, how do you find containing your breed of goat? Do they challenge your fencing much?

What a little beauty. She's my favorite coloring for a goat. Sure looks as though she's thriving without any set-backs from her early appearance.

Linda, according to the hospital Dan did see a hand specialist. The medical director reviewed his case and said that you don't always get what you want, and that the ER resident was a qualified hand specialist. Dan's concern that this particular doctor never unbandaged the hand nor looked at the injury was irrelevant. So the ambulance would have been another expense we would have had to pay, which I'm glad we didn't. It's slowly getting better, and I think he's doing pretty well. He's impatient, but an injury like that will just take time.

Chris, baby animals of any species are always a delight. :) In regards to fencing, we've had no problems with our Kinders, except where falling or uprooted trees have wiped out the fence. Since the grass is always greener on the other side, they'll go through any opening that presents itself!

Mama Pea, thanks! Yes, I love the coloring and love having a variety of colors in my little herd. :)

Are you kidding me?! That sounds much like evidence that Dan did NOT receive proper attention there! So frustrating!

Miracle - I've been wanting a goat, but Mr Shoes insists the shipping from SC would be too much. Such a party pooper sometimes...

She is a dandy isn't she? I love it when things that begin grim turn out as the best surprises. I have had a couple of those in my time and it is always a journey cause one never knows. Give her a squeeze for me.

Mrs. Shoes, whatcha gonna do? One problem is that the admissions people at the ER never looked at the paperwork Dan gave them when he told them that Dr. FirstER made him an appointment with Dr. SuperHandSurgeon for a surgical consultation. They just had him sign in and sit in the waiting room for three hours until they called him in like a routine ER patient. We wondered the same thing that Linda said, maybe it was because Dan didn't take the ambulance. But it was no longer a medical emergency, just a surgical consultation so what was the point? Dr. SuperHandSurgeon had already agreed to meet Dan there, so if based his decision on whether to keep the appointment on his mode of transportation, that's a reflection on him, and as Dan would say, we wouldn't send our dog to him. We just got stuck with the bill.

I think there is one Kinder breeder in Canada! On the other hand, you could start your own herd, all you need is a registered Nubian and a registered Pygmy. But as I recall, Mr. Shoes isn't exactly a goat person, is he. ;)

Goatldi, she is indeed a dandy! So thankful at least this one made it. Both for me and for her mother.

What a sweetie! I love alls well that ends well stories!! Very sweet. I think my grandma's dog thought his name was "Jesus Christ" because that's what she would say every time he got between her legs as she was preparing dinner lol...

M.K., and she is! She was a little slow at the start but has caught up well.

Fiona, ha ha! I'd like to think I'm a goat whisperer, but unfortunately my goats can be pretty bossy. Mostly I'm taking orders!

Susan, it was a relief when she learned how to nurse from her mom instead of a bottle. Also that her lungs matured so quickly. Not she's a normal, jumpin-around little kid!

Dawn, this was so unexpected. That it happened at night pretty much sealed the fate of Miracle's three siblings, although I'm not sure I could have managed three preemies. I'm thankful for at least the one.

Rain, that's funny! It's actually amazing what animals learn. We used to have a cat who would beg for treats when we made dinner. My daughter would tell him, "vegetables," and let him take a sniff. Usually he agreed that it wasn't edible and would leave. One day he asked for something I was chopping up and I told him "vegetables." Then he left before he had a chance to see what I was offering for a sniff! He'd figured out that "vegetables" = nothing interesting for cats to eat.

Yes! So glad she's doing well! And once again... I just Love that color! Thanks for keeping us updated.... It's been a long time since I've had premature kidding or a dystocia but sometimes despite best efforts... It happens...

The Wykeham Observer said...

I'm glad she has bonded with both you and her mom.

Leigh said...

Thanks Quinn!

Annie, this was my first premature kidding and I hope my last! I've had difficult kiddings, but usually things I can figure out (after the fact, of course, like nutritional deficiencies). I have no idea what caused this so I don't know what to correct!

Thanks Phil! It's really nice when they like the humans. I still have a couple of kids who don't like to be petted and so run away. Eventually, they all come around, but the friendly ones are a treat.

Nancy, they are all adorable when they're little. Then they grow up to be goats! LOL. She's one I'll keep this year, for sure, but most of them will have to be sold.
