Master Suite Progress: New Door & New Wall

On sunny days we work outside. On rainy or wet days, outdoor projects are put on hold and we work indoors. Here are some photos of that work, progress on the master suite (plans here).

New Doorway

Original. We used the shelves for our videos & DVDs.
Door on the right was a backdoor to the back porch.

Shelves were torn out during the bathroom demolition.

New doorway where the shelves used to
be, going from what will become the
master bedroom into the hallway & Dan's study.

New Wall

The hallway as we last saw it.

Beginnings of the wall of shelves.

Putting the back on, hall view.

The view from what will become Dan's study. Our ceilings
are 8' 9", but Dan made the shelves a standard 8 foot tall.
The gap at the top was left to allow for air circulation.

This little alcove is where his desk will go.

And done! Now all I have to do is paint them.
These will be primarily for our videos and DVDs.

OH! I didn't understand the plan last time, but I think I get it now. Good use of your space, I like that!

Good for you two. You are making such nice progress (and I know these things take time, believe me!). I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes. :)

I love the fast forward version! No noise or dust..just VOILÁ!!

Very nice niche. When a space is too big, we always tend to fill it.

Brilliant use of space! Can't wait to see the finished product. You guys are doing such a great job!

Jocelyn, that's why a picture is worth a thousand words!

Daisy, thanks!

Barb, oh my the noise and dust. Especially the dust. So true. All our spaces are over-packed, but hopefully this one will make for a little organization!

Stephanie, with yesterday's 2+ inches of rain, today will definitely be an indoor project day.

I don't think a person can have too much shelf space. I love built in shelving and have put it in every house I have lived in. About ten years ago though, I felt that all my CDs, DVDs and videos were occupying too much real estate and decided to remedy that. I bought binders that can hold a 100 CDs/DVDs per binder and have my entire collection in just five of them that would fit easily on just half of one shelf. Of course all the VHS had to be converted to DVD but that was easily done with a converter that plugs into the computer. I don't miss seeing all those things filling up shelves.

Looking good Leigh! Those pictures don't even show how much work you guys have put in.

Wow its been awhile since I took a look at your blog you have done so much. You've been a busy lady!

Cassandra, thanks!

Ed, that's a big yes to lots of shelves. Good idea about the binders for the CDs and DVDs. Interesting about the converter too. I'll have to see if it's compatible with Linux.

DFW, thanks and yes, they don't show it all but I love that they show progress!

Julie, it's great to hear from you! Yes, we've been busy. It's that time of year after all. :)

I forgot about you being a linux user. I have a Honestech converter and I couldn't find anything on their site about Linux.

Ed, I did some research and found what I would need to do it with Linux. It will have to be a someday-in-the-future project though. I appreciate your mentioning it, because now I know it's possible.

A Home For Your Heart, thanks!

Candace, it has worked out very well!

TL, thanks! We'll be very happy to get it done. And with all the rain, it's progressing much faster than I first hoped. The outdoor projects on the other hand.......
